The Shofar: An Ancient, Living Instrument | Lecture and Demonstration

We’re getting ready to start the New Year off on the right note! Confused? Let’s explain. September 23, 2025, corresponds to the Tishrei 1, 5786 in the Jewish Calendar, a holiday called Rosh Hashanah (literally Head of the Year).

We hope you can join us at 12:30 for a lecture and a live demonstration of the shofar, one of the world’s oldest instruments in continued usage. The Jewish people have been using the shofar as a call to spiritually prepare for their holiest day, Yom Kippur, for over 3,000 years. We’ll comprehensively explore the shofar – its religious meaning, history, manufacture, and modern-day usage.
